Location
Canisbay is a picturesque village between Dunnet Head (the most northerly point on mainland Britain) and John O’Groats (the famous “End of the Road”). The late Queen Mother used to visit Canisbay Church regularly on her visits to Caithness; the church can be seen from the farm. Her home “The Castle of Mey” is a short drive away and is now open to the public. This village has uninterrupted views out to the Pentland Firth and on to Orkney. The village is well equipped with Nursery, Primary School, Doctors Surgery, Village shop and sub post office. John O’Groats is a short drive away and has a petrol station, Hotels, Shops, Restaurants, Tourist Information, Wildlife boat trips and Foot Ferry to Orkney. Gills bay, which is a stones throw away, has a Car Ferry to Orkney.

Directions

From Thurso, take the A836 John O’ Groats road. Pass through Castletown, Dunnet, Mey. Next area is Gills, on passing through Gills you will see a parking place to your left. Immediately after the parking place, there is an old farm track to your right. At the end of the farm track, there is a gate to a field. The site is to the right of this gate.

From Wick, proceed north on the A9 to John O’Groats. Turn left onto the main coast road towards Thurso and the site is located after 3 miles on your left hand side, just before the parking place.
